Introducing McSweeney’s List (AKA Shows This Week)
Hey, hi; it's me, Dawn McSweeney. I've been writing FTB’s Shows This Week for a while now, but feeling a bit disconnected. See, I didn't have a sense of direction for the gig, and a fair amount of content simply trickled down for me to cover.
No more y'all!!! I'm here, it's me, the shit we cover from here on out will be stuff that piques my interest from the folks and places I really do enjoy (or wanna check out). I'll also be including workshops and stuff, 'cuz knowledge is power, and sharing resources is important.
Plus, now we're open for submissions! I'm eager AF to expand my horizons, and looking forward to growing the beautiful community we've started…and yes, I'm the bitch who says "beautiful community" with hugs in my heart and optimism in my eyes.
Let's do this together! Tell me what's cool to you! Definitely tell me about the art I haven't seen yet, and the bands I should check out You gettit.
Anyway, I think spring's coming early because in the past week I've seen a robin redbreast, and a jock outside in shorts.
AND THE SHOW GOES ON…
When the previous venue (that I won't name here, you know who you are) cancelled the last 2 nights of the World’s Blackest Comedy Night, our very own Creative Director Andrew Jamieson stepped in to save the day. Calls were made, cool ass venues stepped up, and the nights were saved. Andrew did it for the love of the game, and didn't even take the bow he deserves (and historically enjoys). So these are his kudos, right here, and I'm giving them to him. Check out this feature on the show by Abby Stonehouse. And check out Vance’s other series, The World’s Smallest Comedy Night at Hurley’s.

Grrrl Power + Design = A Good Fucking Time
New at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts is Parall(elles): A History of Women in Design. I'm a low-level design nerd, and I dig deserving chicks finally catching the spotlight. Looks like they have a 1958 Fancy Free Corvette there, and I had no idea a woman designed it. Expect I'll be seeing this one at least a couple of times. Race you there.
WHERE: Montreal Museum of Fine Arts - 1380 Sherbrooke St. W., Montreal, H3G 1J5
WHEN: Now through May, 28th, 2023.
