Nestled on Montreal’s bustling Saint Laurent Boulevard lies a hidden gem known as The Wiggle Room—a venue steeped in cabaret charm, burlesque feathers and wayward rhinestones.

It was a genuine pleasure having coffee with Wine and Halva’s playwright and director, Deniz Başar and Art Babayants, respectively. The title of Başar’s script comes from a poem by Arkadaş Zekai Özgür, a queer, Turkish communist who ultimately died in his mid-twenties after being arrested and brutalized by police.

Performed at Agora de la danse, We All Fall Down Creations’ Dans Les Bras De Morphée is aimed at a young audience, and so I sat with Emery after the show to get his response to the vision and imaginative choreography by the brilliant Helen Simard.
